When many Jews immigrated to the United States, after World War Two, they revived klezmer music, and klezmer became very popular again not only throughout the USA and Canada, but also in most of Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Now days it is very common at Jewish weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and other celebrations to see klezmer bands still playing authentic klezmer music, even though some of the instruments are now electric.

About Klezmer

First, what is Klezmer?

Klezmer, short for "Klei Zemer" in Hebrew and Yiddish
means "Musical Instruments."

Jewish musicians developed klezmer music in Eastern Europe.
Many times, klezmer music was played at weddings and Bar mitzvahs, in the house yard or somewhere out doors. Klezmer fests and other Jewish celebrations took place in the streets.

To prevent the need for electric power, klezmer bands used acoustic instruments.

The typical klezmer instruments included clarinet, violin, accordion, grand bass and acoustic guitar.
Through the years when Jews were oppressed in Europe, klezmer music was not played much until it was almost forgotten.
